The Kernow Pasty Fly-In:
Bodmin Prepares for its Iconic 2026 Charity Season Opener

Bodmin Airfield (EGLA) kicks off the 2026 season with the legendary Kernow Pasty Fly-In. This guide provides pilots with arrival procedures and event details for one of the most popular charity fly-ins in the Southwest.
As the spring air finally begins to settle over the West Country, the UK General Aviation community is looking toward Bodmin Airfield (EGLA) for what has become the unofficial start of the touring season: The Kernow Pasty Fly-In. Scheduled for 18 April 2026, this event remains a highlight for PPL holders and microlight pilots alike, combining the best of Cornish hospitality with a vital cause—supporting the Cornwall Air Ambulance.
For those planning the trip from further afield, Bodmin offers a unique challenge and a spectacular reward. Navigating the undulating terrain of the Cornish peninsula requires a keen eye on the weather, as the Atlantic mist can roll in with little warning.
Pilots are reminded that the airfield is strictly PPR (Prior Permission Required), and during major events like the Pasty Fly-In, slots fill up weeks in advance. The grass runways at Bodmin (13/31 and 03/21) are well-maintained, but pilots should be mindful of the significant slope on Runway 13 - a classic bit of UK GA character that requires a disciplined approach.
Beyond the lure of a fresh, local steak pasty, the event serves as a major fundraiser. Last year’s efforts saw thousands raised for the Air Ambulance, and for 2026, the organisers are aiming higher. There will be ground displays, a chance to meet the HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) crews, and a variety of vintage aircraft expected from across the South West.
If you are coming from the East, consider a coastal transit via the Berry Head or Plymouth corridors for some of the best views in British aviation. Just remember to check the latest NOTAMs for the Devonport restricted areas. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran in a Cessna 172 or a student pilot on one of your first cross-country trips, the Kernow Pasty Fly-In is the perfect excuse to get the logbook moving.
